Hello everyone. My name is Fiona Beal and I am providing the instruction for this course. I am a teacher by profession. I was the computer teacher at Fish Hoek Primary until quite recently when I started to work full time for SchoolNet SA. I spend my day doing all sorts of interesting tasks for SchoolNet (such as designing courses for teachers like I am doing now!) I also maintain the SchoolNet blog, and manage their Facebook, Twitter and Diigo accounts.
ReplyDeleteHello Fiona,
ReplyDeleteThanks for this wonderful opportunity to learn from you. I am a computer Literacy teacher at St Andrew's School in Bloemfontein for the past 5 years. I had a farm school for 17 years in the eastern Cape for gr R to Gr 6. I was principal, teacher, mother, etc... to all those kids. I had a little computer school in town where I taught adults and children basic computer skills during afternoons.
I still have so much to learn and want to grab every opportunity I can to learn more.
At the moment I am teaching gr. 1 to gr 9 computer literacy. I am trying to collaborate with teachers in and outside my school. We have a computer club and plan to do ict skills for teachers next year. Bouwie van der Walt
Hi everyone, I am Brenda from Port Elizabeth. I work at a Prep school where I teach computers to grades 1 to 3. There are 11 classes and I take half a class at a time. I try to focus on integrating lessons with the classroom curriculum. Next year I am hoping to use blogs more extensively with my learners as a way of developing language literacy. I'm looking forward to learning from Fiona and all of you.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am Moira Sherwood from Pietermaritzburg. I teach Computer Literacy to 600 plus children at Ridge Junior Primary - Grades 1 to 3. I teach half a class at a time so that they each have a computer to themselves. This also gives the class teachers time to do more individual work with the other half. By the time they leave Ridge they are able to do the basics on MsWord, MSPowerPoint and MSExcel. I am looking forward to learning something new that I can share with them.
ReplyDeleteHi there Bouwie, Brenda and Moira. It's great to have you on this course. Welcome! (from Fiona)
ReplyDeleteHi there! My name is Dezlin Jacobs. I am currently the Intel Teach project co-ordinator at SchoolNet SA in Johannesburg. The Intel Teach project is aimed at teachers across the professional sphere who are keen to learn how best to integrate technology into their classrooms through project-based learning. I am trusting that I'll be back in my own classroom in 2012 so that I too can implement all these wonderful tools. Looking forward to this adventure! Blessings! :-)

Hello everyone, my name is Melanie Whillier, I am a grade two teacher at Eden Prep in Durban. I have always wanted to learn to set up a blog as I take tons of photos of all the things I do in my classroom as well as the outings we go on during the year. I think that it will be a wonderful way to keep the parents updated and informed on everything that goes on at school. I have a small class and after looking at some of the blogs I would ultimately love to get the children in my class to blog as well. I take both grade two for computers once a week, so it will be something to strive towards!

Hi
ReplyDeleteMy name is Charli Wiggill and I'm the deputy at Eden College in Durban. I currently teach IT (gr7) and Technology (gr8 & 9), but previously taught senior English for over 20 years. Besides a myriad management duties, I run all marketing and advertising at our small, cool school.
Eden College Durban is a co-ed, independent school with 430 pupils from grade 000 - 12. The school has arguably the best matric results in KwaZulu-Natal if not the country - the Class of 2010 attained a class average of 81,9% (NSC 2010) with an average of 4,07 A's per candidate.
I write poetry and started a poetry blog in 2009, but haven't updated it forever (http://virtualrealitypoems.blogspot.com/). So my first task will be to update this blog using all the cool new Web 2.0 tools Fiona will introduce to us. The second task will be to create a school blog in support of our website (www.edencollegedurban.co.za) so our community has opportunities to interact with the school - though the intention is also to feature worthwhile education tools on the net.
Best wishes
Charli Wiggill

Hello Everybody
ReplyDeleteMy name is Norman Proctor, and I'm currently acting as the Deputy Chief Education Specialist for English FET in Bloemfontein. Lately I've been more out of the office than in, as I've been monitoring the matric exams at various schools in the Free State. This means I've started a bit late with this course, and have a lot to catch up. Hope I'll have time to do it all! Many thanks to Fiona and the team for the opportunity.
Hi, my name is Ailie Maurice. I currently teach Grade 1 at Eden College in Durban, KZN, South Africa. As a parent I love hearing and seeing what goes on in my own child's classroom so surely parents of the children I teach would too. I think this is a fabulous way of ínviting' parents into your classroom, keeping them updated, informed and excited about their child's school day. I hope to bridge the occassional communication barrier as well as allowing for some fun with sharing our time at school with the parents and families of the children we teach.
ReplyDeleteDear Chandre, Sharon, Charli, Anne, Corlia, Ken, Norman and Ailee - welcome to the blogging world! Thank you for adding your blogs to our list. Warm regards, Fiona
